Small Laundry Room Designs

Many of us dream of having the laundry room that has so much space that we don’t know what to do with it all. Unfortunately not all of us are living in our dream homes right now. For now we have to make do with what we have and transform our small laundry room into an area that can be useful and that we can actually be proud of.

When working with a small laundry room design the first thing that will come to your mind is space. In most cases these laundry rooms are not even considered rooms – but an area in the home that is usually connected off of the kitchen and next to the back door. It is your job to improve upon this space and make it seem larger and help it to blend in with its surroundings.

The best place to start is with storage. We need a place where can store all of our detergents, fabric softeners, iron, ironing board, and other supplies. The best and most efficient place to store it all is to build and install a row of cabinets above the machines. If the laundry area is open then purchase cabinets from a home department store or buy them at a garage sale. You can easily sand them down and repaint them to match the rest of your home.

Another way to provide you with storage space is to use a space saver that will sit beside on of the machines. You can even use this along with the cabinets above the machines. It will give you the space to store any extra supplies that you have including pet food. The great thing about these space savers is that they have an unobstructed area below that will give you space to place your hamper.

The last thing that you want to do when creating a small laundry room design is to find a way to corner it off. Most people find it easier to place it inside of a closet that will hide it from view. Just make sure that it has its own interior lighting. Another way to hide it is to use lace curtains or a wooden divider. These are more affordable and you can purchase them to match the look of your home.
