Lighting Up The Laundry Room
When designing your laundry room there are a few necessary features that it should have. Most of us will focus on the mount of space we need for the machines and having enough cabinets and drawers to make sure that everything is being stored away and within reach. The one thing that we can often neglect is lighting.
Lighting is important in this particular room because you are doing so much. With the right amount of space it is where you will be washing, drying, ironing, and folding all of your clothes. For those of you who can sew it will also be the place where you repair any holes or missing buttons. There are three ways in which you can light up your laundry room area.
Windows
Nothing can light up a room better than natural sunlight. If it is possible design your laundry room to have windows lining one whole wall. You can use two small windows to provide you with a small amount of privacy or you can use large windows across the entire area. Remember that the more light you let in the less energy you use for that room. To offer you some privacy you should put up sheer white curtains. This allow the sunlight in – but prevents people from looking through.
Ceiling Lights
All laundry rooms will come standard with these ceiling lights as they can be very helpful even if you do have windows. It is important to have one that uses the right amount of voltage to provide the right amount of light to see what you are doing when it is night time or when there are no windows to help you see. The energy saving light bulbs will last longer than most and will provide you with a bright light to work by.
Cabinet Lighting
There are times when we have a difficult time seeing what we are doing when trying to reach for the detergent or other supplies. To make things easier you should install lighting under the cabinets that are above the machines. These are like a spotlight that will help you to measure everything out properly and to keep you from putting too many clothes in the machine. If you do not have cabinets then try to install lights onto the wall behind the machines that will shine down on them. It is easier and more affordable to use the kind that plug directly into the wall.
