Laundry Mud Room Designs

There are many areas in the home that are used as laundry rooms and for other purposes. Some might turn it into a half bathroom while others might use it as a mud room. A mud room is a special area in the home where people enter through before they reach the inside of the home. This is where they will remove their shoes, coats, and hats so that no dirt or snow is tracked inside of the home. These rooms are usually only seen in homes built in cold climate regions.

Not all homes are large enough to build separate areas for the laundry room and mud room and because of this they have combined the two together. Although it might not be ideal for some people it can be used to your advantage. The biggest advantage is the space that you will be able to work with.

Mud rooms alone are usually designed to be large so as to handle several people coming in at one time and removing their shoes. When creating a laundry mud room design try to find a suitable part of the room where you can place your machines. The best place to place them is in a corner of the room that is closest to the entrance leading inside of the home.

To store things you an purchase a space saver that will fit around both of the machines and provide shelving on either side and above. You can also find a smaller space saver that can fit beside just one machine with space underneath where you can store your hamper.

It helps sometimes to separate the laundry room aspect from the mud room like you would in a bathroom laundry room design. The best way to do this is to have two closets. One closet will be used to store jackets and shoes and the other will be used for your washer and dryer. If the room will only handle one closet than try to purchase a wooden divider for your machines or decorative curtains.
