How To Keep It Clean

The laundry room is one of the busiest rooms in the home. It might not see a lot of traffic – but this is where we wash, dry, fold, and iron all of the clothes. For some people it is also where we mend buttons and store any sewing supplies that we have. It is often a cluttered place and over time dirt and dust can build up to make it filthy.

Once or twice a month you should clean out the entire area. During the week it is easy to wipe down the shelves and the machines to keep the dust at bay. However, this will not deal with everything that is lying behind them on the floor where we cannot see just how dirty it has become.

The first thing you need to do is pull everything off of the shelves. Place all of your detergent, dryer sheets, sewing supplies, and anything else that might be lying around in a box and put it in another room. Try to go through everything in that box and throw away things that you are not using it and that are wasting space.

Now that the space is clear you are free to wipe down the shelves. This is something you don’t do very often so remember to clean off on top, in back, on the side. If you need to grab a step stool so you can see just how much dust has settled on top of it.

Once you are done with the shelves you need to move to the washer and dryer. Use warm water and mild soap to wash down the inside and outside of each of them. The worst part is going to the sides that are facing each other. Pull them slightly apart and pull out any lint or clothes that have fallen in between. While you have the soap and water on hand you should use it to clean off the light fixtures, window sills, and baseboards.

Lastly you need to clean off the floors. Take out any area rugs and beat them outside and vacuum them. Use floor cleaner to wipe down the entire area. If you can, move the machines and wash behind them. This is filthy and that much dust in the room can be harmful to your health.
