Colors For The Laundry Room

The laundry room is not the most important room in the home. But this does not mean that we do not want it to look great and match the rest of the home. When decorating and designing your laundry room you need to decide on many things. One of the more important of these decisions is what colors you will use on the walls and for the various furniture that will be inside the room.

Colors To Use

There is usually only one theme to a laundry room – clean. This is the place where we wash, dry, iron, fold, and sew all of our clothes and our children’s clothes. Because of this we want to make sure that the area looks clean inside and out. The best colors to use are ones that are light and in any other room would be considered boring. Remember that the lighter the color the more open the room will feel even if it is rather small.

White - One of the best things about this color is that it goes with everything. Even if your washer and dryer are bright red the white on the walls will not wash it out or make them look awkward. The only downside to this color is that it is boring and is too easy to get marked by scratches and stains.

Pale Yellow - We suggest that you use pale yellow rather because it is softer and easier on the eyes. It is difficult to use bright colors in this room because it can make it look a bit tacky. However, pale yellow is soft and helps to make the room appear comfortable and bigger.

Tan - This is a neutral room in which both the men and women of the house will need to use. Because of this you want to make sure that you choose a neutral color that both parties can enjoy. When choosing a tan color make sure that it is not dark otherwise you will make the room appear smaller than it is.

Colors Not To Use

Dark Colors - In the majority of homes the laundry room is small or combined with other rooms. Because of this you should stay away from dark colors – which will make it even smaller. Also many of the dark colors will make you feel tired, angry, or sad depending on the mood you are in. This will not help you to get anything done.

Bright Colors - You want to make the room to be as neutral as possible. Bright colors like pink, purple, green, and blue will not just look tacky – but may cause the entire room to be off balanced. The only time you should risk using these colors is if you are single and are the only around to enjoy it.
